Leadership Summer School

The Lassen Expedition is designed for those seeking adventure and outdoor challenge while earning academic credit. Rock-climb near Mt. Shasta rather than run around a track to earn P.E. credit. Sit near an alpine lake in the Trinity Alps while focusing on academic studies rather than a hot classroom with twenty other students.

A willingness to learn new skills and expand physical and mental limits is essential. Students in grades 9-12 who are generally motivated, demonstrate appropriate behavior, and want to improve their leadership skills while working ahead in school are well-suited for this program. Students experiencing academic difficulty and those with learning differences, attention deficit and time management issues may also benefit from this experiential approach.

"The value of the Lassen program is that a unique combination exists between academics and wilderness adventures. While blending a hands-on approach to learning, the students develop leadership skills, along with a life-long appreciation of nature. This is one of the most commendable summer school programs available."       - Jill Mahoney, parent, 2004
